Everyone keeps looking for new ways to make money online… although directories are hardly new, I haven’t seen too many bloggers making money with them. It’s time to start! I’ve personally run a couple directories before and sold him for a few hundred… nothing major, I know; but they took less than an hour on my part to setup (especially as it was outsourced) and maybe another hour to promote. Not a bad amount for a few hours work now, is it? :)

There are two ways you can make money with online directories… the first involves providing a directory submission service, which only works if you can automate it (using scripts and the like)… the second however, can be done by anyone and that’s what I’ll be talking about today – namely, setting up your own directory.

The first thing you need to do is get a domain… now, whereas you can start with a fresh domain, it’s better you get one that is aged with Pagerank (as that is what make directories valuable, along with traffic and revenue of course). You can generally find a PR3 domain on the various forums like Digital Point or Sitepoint for $20 or less, heck – if you find a neglected directory for sale, you could buy it too. You’ll find many people with directories that they started with good intentions, but then stopped promoting for whatever reason; pick one up and half your work is done.

If you start from scratch, once you have the domain you will need to get a directory script – a good one is PHP Link Directory. Although it costs money ($25 with a footer link) it is well worth it as it is easy to setup and after you have it setup all you need to do is promote.

Onto the promotion part…

You need two things to have a successful directory; revenue (which means paid links) and traffic. The former is fairly easy to get.

What you do is offer a ‘discounted price’ at the various forums for a featured listing while limiting the amount. This takes two aspects of selling into account – scarcity and human natural cheapness (okay, I made up the latter attribute :) ). As your directory is new, it will not fetch a great deal for links… however you should be able to sell around twenty links for $5 each over the course of a month without a problem.

A great place to find out about and promote your directory is Digital Point’s directory section, specifically the Solicitations and Annoucements section. You can also try their link sales section to sell more links. You should allow as many inner free links as possible but try to make it a requisite that a backlink is required. For this you are making sure of two things – you’re building links for your website and you are also gaining traffic.

As for further building traffic, you can do link exchanges with other directories of a similar standing (make sure you both swap links in good positions of equal value) and also addon a blog, which makes it possible for you to quickly SEO your directory for long tail related keywords that get traffic.

With just $100 in revenue (which is not difficult to attain, especially if you manage to snag a good domain) you can easily sell your online directory at the various webmaster forums… and once you’ve done it first time successfully, just rinse and repeat over and over again.

I’ve had some emails asking for more ways to make money online, specifically blackhat ones.

This is a specific way I used in the past to net a few thousand dollars in income off parked domains. I stopped recently because I wanted more ‘legit’ ways of making money online, however the system is still sound.

First step… buying the domains.

What you want are generic domains that are adult, but do not seem so.

For example, Cutest-Pics.com (not sure if it is available, just an example).

You will also need to sign up for parking companies. Like Sedo, Revenue Direct or Parked.com.

Most will have heard about eWhoring - the problem is that it takes too long usually to close the sale (at least 5 minutes) - and a free signup (without CC) only nets you $3 - $6.

Here’s how you can profit from eWhoring, but less faking it, less work, generally more money.

After you have your domain pointed at your parking company, you want to optimize it for adult keywords.

Adult keywords can pay $0.5 - $2 per keyword, and with your iffy domain you can have them displayed on your page.

Next, you hit up chatrooms as a girl. Name yourself Suzie or something, entirely up to you. A good chatroom is Meebo Rooms, however there are plenty out there.

Post in the main window of 5-6 populated rooms that you are looking to talk with a few guys from the USA. Mention a newly created MSN nickname (you want an email that portrays the average teenage slut - xoxsuzie69@hotmail.com for example).

If you do this enough, at intervals through out the day, you will see around 1,000 adds (spread over a few accounts).

Once you have your MSN account filled, you need to install MSN Plus.

The great thing is that MSN Plus comes with an autoresponder.

So you need to set it up to look like a legit conversation.

For example, here’s one.

User (this is one of your random ads): hey babe

Autoresponse 1: hey… whos this?

User: XYZ off XYZ chat room. I saw you wanted to talk

Autoresponse 2: yeah… do you have pics?

User: yeah… do you?

Autoresponse 3: yeah I do. Cutest-Pics.com, first link.

User: okay, let me see

——

Now… you’re getting direct traffic to your parked domain, and clicks. What you can do is buy traffic through a double META refresh so that your CTR is legit.

If you have 1,000 ads over a few accounts, that is $200 - $500+ daily, depending on the payout on each click. Remember that you can hit the same users the next day, with different domains (’sorry, i gave you the wrong site… go to Cutest-Pics2.com and it’s the second link’). When I did this, it worked multiple times.

Blackhat is not for everyone, but if it’s for you there’s a lot of money waiting :)

Pay per install is currently being used by many people online to generate thousands of dollars monthly… some people are making a full time income with it.

I’ve personally made a few hundred with Pay Per Install (PPI) using the ‘celebrity screensaver method’. What you need to do is find and create screensavers of celebrities - you can buy image packages on webmaster forums cheap or just use free images off Wikipedia and Google Images. Each screensaver should be around 5-10 images long. You can create screensavers once you have the images using a program called ScreenSaver Builder 3 (free).

Once you have the screensavers, you need to package them with a PPI program. Now, if you have ethics, PPI is not for you - a lot of them install spyware and adware, however there are a few reputable ones. Zango Cash for example pays well, but has been known for installing things unwanted by users. Another good one is Vomba Cash, however there are plenty of PPI sites that you can try out. Most of them pay around $0.45 - $1.45 per install (Zango pays one of the highest).

In some cases you will be able to manually package them together, in other cases you’ll need to ask your affiliate manager to do it for you. You will eventually end up with an EXE file that you need to promote. Getting this file is easy, but how do you promote it?

Pay Per Click. Programs like Google Adwords work well for this niche - you can generally get clicks at $0.05 - $0.1 and you’ll see a 25 - 50% conversion (depending on your landing page, I’ve seen higher).

If you spend $100 to get 1,000 visitors and you see just a 25% conversion, you make around a $150 profit (taking an average of $1 per install). Make sure you only allow USA traffic so that you’re not wasting money on low paying countries.

Torrents. Torrents are great for promoting PPI as people that use them are not very tech-aware - the type of screensavers that do best on torrents are ones starring famous adult models. If you upload in bulk, you can easily see a 1-200 installs daily.

Celeb Forums. Again, people that use celeb forums do not tend to be tech-aware. You can create threads with titles like ‘Free XYZ Celeb Screensaver’.

Blog Commenting. Comment on high profile celeb blogs (like Perez Hilton) and link to your landing page. Comment with your screensaver title (ex Jessica Alba Screensavers) as your anchor text.

Of course, there are other ways to get installs… be creative. Develop your own ideas and put some work into it and you can make $100/day.

Today I’m going to talk about a method that I’ve been using personally for the last 2-3 weeks to make around $500 in pure profit by entering contests offline.

Offline business tends to be more lucrative than online business… so when you combine the two, you can make some easy profit. I’m specifically talking about offline contests.

The thing about offline contests is that they tend to pay a lot more than online contests - the people running them usually aren’t aware of where to go on the Internet to get top quality designs, and so prizes can range in the hundred dollar to thousand dollar range.

Online, you can run a contest on one of the webmaster forums and get a few dozen, high quality designs put up for less than $100.

Last week, I entered a logo design contest. Despite the fact that I cannot design logos. The prize money was around $900.

I setup a thread on a webmaster site asking for logo designs, and letting people know that if their design was chosen, I’d pay them $100, with the contest running a week (both offline and online). With this I managed to get twenty three high quality designs submitted, and all of them were sent in.

I won the contest. End result? $900 won, $100 spent, $800 profit for no work on my part - all I did was start the thread!

Another contest I’ve entered is the local newspaper competition.

Basically all you have to do is send in a picture weekly, with a cash prize of around $300 given away. Note that this does not have to be a picture taken by you.

I’ve bought pictures from iStockPhoto for $1 and sent them in. Have won twice in the last three weeks. If you can do math, the profit margin on that is pretty extensive.

How do you find these contests? The best places to look are newspapers, and then if you cannot find anything magazines. If your city is big enough, there will usually be something happening.

A simple way to make money, one that anyone can do. Try it out and you’ll be surprised!

Everyone wants to make money online… that is the ultimate dream, being able to work from home. A lot of ways to make money online involve start up capital though – what if you don’t have the money to invest?

That’s the problem faced by many, and most people need ways to start off making money without having to spend a dime. Some of these will only provide short term income, some can be developed into a sustainable long term business model – here’s three ways to make money online free.

1) Surveys

Thousands of work at home moms are making a good amount of money from their home computers filling in surveys for companies online – advertisers want to know what consumers want and they’re willing to pay for it.

All that’s needed to make money answering surveys is a keyboard – most survey companies have restrictions (country wise for example) so the best opportunities will likely be available only in the USA. If you can get sorted though, doing surveys is an easy way to bring in a few hundred dollars monthly.

The dangerous thing about surveys is that there are a lot of unscrupulous companies out there – make sure you do your research through a Google search to see if people have been paid out.

Choosing a survey company that is well established and with good payment terms is a great (and fun) way to make money online.

2) Freelancing

If you can write, design or code , you can make money online freelancing.

Freelancing is a multi-million dollar business nowadays, with more and more companies wanting jobs done but unable to do it themselves. One of the most common freelancing jobs is writing, where you can be paid to create articles, stories and sometimes even novels.

As long as you proofread your work for spelling and grammatical mistakes, writing should be easy if you have the talent for it. Again, be wary and take some percentage of payment before you start work to avoid being ripped off.

You may need to work cheaper at the beginning to build up a portfolio and some reputation, but once you do so do not be scared to raise your rates. You can find writing jobs at various forums and job boards.

3) Selling items

Websites like eBay mean that you can take stuff you don’t need anymore and sell them for a nice profit.

One man’s junk is another man’s treasure (or so they say) and that piece of jewellery sitting in the back of your cupboard that you don’t use anymore could be worth hundreds of dollars to the right person.

Auction websites allow you to list your old, not needed items for sale and make money – some require a listing fee but with most you only pay if you manage to sell the item.

Most auction websites have protection to deal with fake bidders or scammers, but make sure you only deal with people in the same country as you if possible, or people in registered countries like the USA, Canada and Australia.

The three ways above can be done by anyone and the best thing is that you don’t need any money to start up. You can start making money just minutes from now – so start looking and good luck!
